Title: Contemplate (The Reason You Exist) - reviewed on 03/28/03
Artist: KAI TRACID
Label: 2003 Sony Music / Epic (Germany)
Style: Trance/Techno

Review:

KATE RYAN - Different Brand new album by German DJ, Producer, remixer KAI TRACID is here. Released back in February, this offering brings some interesting sound. As you could expect from KAI, you are getting stunning and intoxicating TECHNO and TRANCE sound with some unique twists here and there. The album starts with mesmerizing chant delivered with seductive KAI's vocals in "Welcome" tune. This is dark and charged fare to introduce you to the twisted reality of KAI's music. The atmosphere is getting thicker in the next tune "Express Your Hidden Passion". This one is done in ACID TECHNO style with PROGRESSIVE touch. The melody is fulfilling and taunted by heartfelt female vocals over layers supplemented by melancholic chimes. Very well done indeed. "Follow Me Freely" is instrumental DREAM/TRANCE fare pumped up fantastically with synth strings and bells-like sound. It has that trancendental feel with beauty maintained throughout. While the track is energetic itself, it does bring some beach sound with waves and birds singing, all computerized. Kind of lilting, summery style. The outcome is simply wonderful. Very similar in climate is also "Far Beyond Your Wildest Imagination", however it has even more energy and you will love the solid electronic fireworks that took over this fare. It mind stimulating and will blow you away. Brand new single "4 Just 1 Day" is here as well. There is video to this tune, so check this one out in our VIDEO section. Typical KAI's TECHNO production very alike to such tunes as "Destiny's Path" or "Liquid Skies". Spectacular, haunting female vocals over dramatic synth work and beautifully crafted production. KAI really is going to mess with your mind. "Drift Deep Into Your Own Thoughts" is another example of tantalizing TECHNO deeply influenced by GOA-TRANCE. Very wild rich electronic club fare, with irresistibly loops soaring and diving over dazzling synths! Simply amazing! If you like ACID sound, you should enjoy "Pure Acid". Well... it is not exactly ACID HOUSE though it rather ACID TRANCE if such term exists. Lots great big giddy synths in this one. CD also contain Multimedia Bonus part with KAI's pictures, screensaver, video clip to "4 Just 1 Day" in mpg format and wallpaper. Taken together an impressive offering from KAI. I prepared a sound sampler with 6 tunes from this release. Enjoy!

Title: Different - reviewed on 03/28/03
Artist: KATE RYAN
Label: 2002 Antler Subway (Belgium)
Style: Dance/Pop
Index #: AS 9041 DIG 7243 581 037 2 4
Review:

KATE RYAN - Different I had many requests to review the debut album by rising star of Belgian POP/DANCE scene - KATE RYAN (KATRIEN VERBEECK). The album was released last year, so I am sorry, I am doing it so late. KATE debuted in 2001 with her first mega single: "Scream For More". This one she also performed in French as "Mon coeur résiste encore". It is very interesting, because there are other two titles she also sang in French language. As far as I know she cannot speak that language, however she has perfect French pronunciation. I actually like French "edition" of her songs because the language itself give the tunes quite sensual feeling. Speaking of French singing, there is an French artist I admire a lot: MYLENE FARMER. Her music inspired me and her album "L'Autre" from 1991 is a highlight of my 5000+ CD collection. So, no wonder why I was stunned to see KATE taking "Désenchanteé" one of my favorite songs from that mentioned MYLENE's album. KATE converted it to a melodic electronic wonder full of power and expression. Cool indeed. I recently updated VIDEO Section and added video clips to all these titles. There is also video clip of "Libertine" yet another tune from the album that became a huge success as well. This title is also sang in French. Check them out. Going back to the album. First let me tell you, that most of the tunes featured in here are actually composed by KATE RYAN. So she is not only an exceptional singer but also talented composer. Going back to music, I would like to draw your attention to "UR (My Love)". It is another example when TRANCE strings meet NRG sound. Bright, uplifting melody tipped by excellent production and of course KATE's vocal dominating throughout. More plain NRG is "So In Love". Even purists will like that one! Another sultry, sophisticated and incredibly sexy fare to fall for. There are more like this. "Lift Me Higher" is a dazzling synth-driven stomper delivering delightful sound and energy. Album features also some more alternative styles. For instance "Through Your Eyes" combines some SOUL and POP elements, or POP and HOUSE in "Got To Move On". Taken together a brilliant DANCE album that should become part of your collection. I prepared for you a sound sampler with 6 tunes and don't forget to check VIDEO section from some cool vids to tunes featured in this offering. Enjoy!

Title: Total Recall - reviewed on 02/10/03
Artist: E-ROTIC
Label: 2003 Bros Music (Germany) / EMI/Toshiba (Japan)
Style: EuroTrance
Index #: TOCP-64175
Review:

E-ROTIC - Total Recall Veterans of EURODANCE from BROS team are back with new E-ROTIC album released once again first in ... JAPAN! Looking at the track listing you might shout: What the heck? Another album with all these old tracks? Well... Hold on a second! Yeah! The track names look familiar don't they? No kidding! So What the marvellous BROS team did to them? They performed as the title of album indicate a "TOTAL RECALL". They hired NICO HERZ, DOMENICO LIVRANO that along with FELIX J. GAUDER and DOMENICO LABARILLE themselves revamped, remixed, vandalized, just name it these classics and gave them EURO-TRANCE powerball. Will you like these transition? It really all depends! I will not be probably objective because I love the combination of EURO and TRANCE. If you are like me, I am sure you will find this release a true treat! I have to admit, I was dying to hear what can be done to some of my favs from E-ROTIC. I was satisfied immensely! Boys at BROS delivered smashing DANCE sound, making some of these "oldies" sound so different that you might have hard time to recognize the original. In other instances, the tunes "enriched" with angelic synths went straight to conquer the DANCE floor! As a bonus there is a CD-EXTRA with two MPEG video clips featuring original versions of their mega hits: "Willy Used A Billy Boy" and "Max Don't Have Sex With Your Ex". Do I have any favorite track in this album? I do not! Why not? It is quite simple! All of them are so cool! I am sure some of you hard core EURO whiners will find some loop-holes, but then you will never be satisfied. Presented E-ROTIC's music here is truly a hardcore EURO-TRANCE at the best. I am really looking forward to the next album from E-ROTIC soon to be released with all brand new material. If it will deliver similar sound to one presented in "Total Recall", I am sure it will score high! Congrats to DAVID BRANDES and company for keeping making trendy and quality DANCE sound. We love you for it and always will! Looking at the current trend in DANCE genre that returns to EURO roots by many of old and newcommers to the scene, you will sure keep an unqestionable lead! As I said the album is released in Japan and I am not sure when and if it will be released in Europe. As a devoted fan of E-ROTIC I bought this CD on line from the link I am providing. Yes! It costed me about $31.00 with Express Mail shipping included (I got it within three days from original order) and I am happy I did it! I prepared the sound sampler with 10 tracks from this album. While it should serve you as a hint what to expect, I couldn't really give your all mind-blowing, messmerizing TRANCE essential ups and downs. For that you really have to get the album. Please check out the sound sampler and get the album! Enjoy for now!

Title: We Rule The Danza - reviewed on 02/10/03
Artist: PREZIOSO feat. MARVIN
Label: 2002 Time Records (Italy) / BMG Ariola (Germany)
Style: Dance
Index #: 74321 91600
Review:

PREZIOSO feat. MARVIN - We Rule The Danza I still have "couple" of albums from 2002 left to be reviewed. Today I picked one of them. New album from PREZIOSO (feat. MARVIN) entitled "We Rule The Danza" contains 11 tunes and some of them were actually released back in 2001. I am sure you are familiar with PREZIOSO style that combines elements of TECHNO, POP and DANCE. This is quite unique style for Italian scene I might say. Something similar that another famous Italian DJ does: GIGI D'AGOSTINO. Well... this is very loos comparison, since both artists are of course different. You also should be familiar with some tunes from this album, because they already became quite hits. Good examples are "Somebody" (watch for video to be soon posted) and "Let's Talk About The Man". You will also recognize in this album some other familiar tunes or strings taken from other composers. For instance "Send Me An Angel" represents remake of classic POP tune by REAL LIFE and remade by others. On the other hand you might also hear characteristic JEAN-MICHEL JARRE hooks present in the title song "We Rule The Danza". This is so "Souvenirs from China" like I would say. The album starts with "Herba". Fascinating tune. At the beginning you might think you will get BREAK-BEAT/HOUSE fare, but it raises to HOUSE with TRIBAL elements to fully-blown TECHNO flavored DANCE smash! The temperature will rise throughout the album. Wait until you will hear "In My Mind". A masterpiece of uplifting, contemporary brilliance with the hottest circuit od energized HOUSE and POP in one. If you are into tantalizing TECHNO, you would fall for "I'm Your DeeJay". For some speedy TRANCE-flavored TECHNO you should check "Wonderful Place". Thematically it is so ABBA tune, it hurts! You wil lbe astonished how it might sound after aggressive synths taking over! kinda cool! One of the best tunes in this album! Taken together yet another great offering for the starved DANCE community. I recommend this album wholeheartly! It is still available from the link provided. For now enjoy sound sampler from this album features 8 tunes. Enjoy!

Title: Together - reviewed on 01/30/03
Artist: SYSTEM F
Label: 2003 Avex Network (Japan)
Style: Trance
Index #: AVCD-17211
Review:

SYSTEM F - Together Let me present you the brand new album from SYSTEM F. project by very talented and well known TRANCE DJ and producer: FERRY CORSTEN entitled "Together". The album has been initially released in Japan and it's European edition is planned in incoming months. If you were waiting for new material from FERRY CORSTEN, here you are in luck. I have to admit, I was hungry for new stuff by myself. I personally adore the music FERRY CORSTEN is making, and I know many of you are awaiting new material from him. Recent singles "Punk" released under his own name as FERRY CORSTEN or "Ligaya" under GOURYELLA were big hits. The first rather dark TECHNO while the second one was a majestic TRANCE and this style (TRANCE) dominates in this incoming release. In spite of the fact that TRANCE is getting kinda boring these days, I still love the sound. FERRY indeed delivered a good portion of what you might call big room, majestic and even cathedral TRANCE. The sound is beautiful, music is haunting, simply irresitible experience for all of you who fall for this style. Some of you more "sophisticated" members of TRANCE community might find this album a cheesy one, you might also be disspointed with their length (short Radio Edits), but hey... the European release might have some of them in the future and maybe in extended versions. Among 15 tracks (some exclusively released for Asian market) are already known "Dance Valley Theme 2001" and "Ligaya". Everything else is brand new material. It is really hard to single them out, because every and each of them is beauty itself (yes! I fall for "cheesy" stuff). I made the sound sampler featuring 9 tunes, but it still does not do the justice to what is coming. I only can tell you that if you like big room TRANCE you will have it all! "Together" represents VOCAL TRANCE but with male vocals and strings that are very GOURYELLA alike. You will love melodic line and uplifting feel in this one. There are many more tunes that fit that description. For instnace "The Sonnet" is highlighted by cascading piano lines and scintillating strings. There is also female VOCAL TRANCE version in "Spread Your Wings" or beautifully arranged "Spaceman" with dazzling synthesizers and turbo-charged buttom. FERRY CORSTEN reached also to some TRIBAL elements like in "Savannah". This tune falls into afterhour treat if you will. If you like more aggressive PUSH-like sound, you will love "Pegassus". Incredibly catchy and galloping tune with screaming electronica within. Truly a mesmerizing dance experience. Taken together, this album is worth to get, even if you have to get it from far away. I am sure devoted fans of FERRY will dig to their wallets to have this piece of work in their collection, others might wait for European album sometimes in May, but probably with a different content. For now enjoy this short preview experience with sampler containing 9 tunes! Enjoy!

Title: Trance Remixes (Special Edition) - reviewed on 01/28/03
Artist: 2 UNLIMITED
Label: 2003 EMI/Toshiba (Japan)
Style: Trance/Techno
Index #: TOCP-64179
Review:

2 UNLIMITED - Trance Remixes If you are hard core EURO/TECHNO collector and connoisseur the name: 2 UNLIMITED is classic. Original 2 UNLIMITED ceased to exist in the summer of 1996 and their solists: handsome, full of muscle RAY SLIJNGAARD and sexy ANITA DOTH went apart as singing duo but their music stayed in hearts of many. Within 4 years of existence on the dance market the project managed to achieved a worldwide success selling millions of singles and albums including US market (their album "Real Things" and VHS with video clips were released here as well). Their songs like "Twilight Zone", "No Limit", "Get Ready For This" are truly classic! Their music was not just plain EURO but very dynamic, fast DANCE with many ingredients ot TECHNO. As a matter of fact, many consider this project as originating the style where NRG meets TECHNO. These days, when it is fashionable to do remixes from classic projects, 2 UNLIMITED seemed to be a perfect target. So, here we have the album released in ... JAPAN in November 2002 featuring 13 remixes. The remixes started back in 2000 when the 2 UNLIMITED producers gave the vocals of many 2 UNLIMITED songs to well known remixers/producers like DJ JEAN, THE SUNCLUB, MOON PROJECT, ALMIGHTY, THREE DRIVERS, STARFIGHTER etc. Most of these songs appeared on the first 2 UNLIMITED remix album released back in the end 2000 and some of them were released on vinyls. Presented album features 13 tunes. You will find here "No Limit" remixed by Moon Project that gives the original tune riveting blend of ass-kicking beat and big room TRANCE highlighted by soaring strings and dazzling synthesizers over a rumbling, turbo-charged bottom. This tune has been also remixed by PUSH in more intoxicating, dark side of instrumental TRANCE. Multiple treatment received also another classic: "Twilight Zone". Album features three remixes of this fare. PK Hard Trance and Hard Trance Remix, are exactly what the titles of remixes says: HARD TRANCE. Combination of aggressive, pure-NRG beauties, with gorgeous pumping melody flying over solid, compelling rhythm. Also other Classic got their faces "lifted". "Tribal Dance" in Tribal Trance Mix is beautifully done full blown VOCAL TRANCE with compelling rhythm and seductive bottom. "Get Ready For This" got more PROGRESSIVE treatment from Yves DeRuyter. "Let The Beat Control Your Body" in Mistral Remix got some gothic treat yet filled with some galloping, extra catchy chords and instrumentation. So taken together we have here nicely remixed album in nowadays direction in DANCE. I am sure fans of 2 UNLIMITED would like to have it. Please check it out! I am presenting you sound sampler with 8 tunes from this release. Enjoy!

Title: Supernova - reviewed on 01/16/03
Artist: NOVASPACE
Label: 2003 Konsum Music / Sony Music Entertainment (Germany)
Style: Euro Trance
Index #: PROMO
Review:

NOVASPACE - Supernova I am pleased to present the debut album by German project NOVASPACE called "Supernova" released on January 06, 2003. Behind NOVASPACE is 23 year old JESSIE BÖHRS. After an enormous success of covers done in TRANCE style of MADONNA's cult tunes by MAD'HOUSE and PETER's CETERA "Hard To Say I Am Sorry" by AQUAGEN, JESSIE decided to cover in TRANCE style CYNDI's LAUPER "Time After Time" and as her first single this title was released last year. Actually, whe liked this tune when she was a kid. Since this release was quite successful, other covers followed up (e.g. "To France", "Guardian Angels" and "Tears In May"). Single "Tears In May" is not an accident. You might recall another German project: MISSING HEART that recorded that tune several years ago. Well... it came from BROS team, and the member of it: FELIX GAUDER; one of the most successful producers of German classic EURODANCE. So, expect good DANCE music. It is EURO but updated with uplifting TRANCE sound. Album includes more covers. JESSIE's interpretation of ULTRAVOX's hall of fame classic "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" is fabulous. It is a lovely hybrid of classic EURO with more commercial TRANCE sound. This title was recently released on single as well. Very similar in style is incredibly produced "Close To You". JESSIE vocally sounds a bit like KYLIE MINOGUE in this tune, but the similarity stops right here. Galloping rhythms and beatiful synths makes this one a great offering also for NRG circuit. JESSIE's voice is not that strong, but it works fine for the tune. Yet another EURO-TRANCE is represented by "Paradise". Oh my! This one pumping up the bottom line to a pounding, peak-hour, floor packing pitch that will cause dancefloor to explode BIG! The album contains also some slower, after-hour tracks such as beatifully done LOVE tune "One More Try" or "Never-Ending Love". As a bonus you are getting Extended versions of "Guardian Angel" and Nova Mix of "To France". Taken together nice offering for the DANCE community. Sound sampler from this album features 8 tunes. Enjoy!

Title: Mark 'Oh - reviewed on 01/16/03
Artist: MARK 'OH
Label: 2003 Home Records / Sony Music Entertainment (Germany)
Style: Trance/ Techno
Index #: HOM 510610 2
Review:

MARK OH - Mark Oh We are really lucky to start 2003 with some great new album as one presented above and this one released also on January 6, 2003 by veteran of German TECHNO scene: MARK'OH. If you are fan of TECHNO you know MARK 'OH very well. He started his career a decade agow with releasing in 1993 his debut single "Randy - Never Stop The Feeling". Almost 10 years later he re-released this track as a single in 2002. Earlier songs of MARK 'OH were mostly done in TECHNO/RAVE style and such titles as "Love Song" (became an anthem for Berlin's infamous LOVE PARADE), "Tell Me", "The Right Way" to name the few became classics. Another of his classic tune: "Never Stop That Feeling" from 1995 was also re-released in updated version by him back in 2001. Actually, his debut album relased also in 1995 was entitled as this single. MARK' OH is also well regarded producer and remixer. Many other acts has been remixed by him (e.g. DAISY DEE, PLASTIC VOICE, PERPLEXER and many others). 2003 MARK 'OH starts with even more refreshing sound in this album. Released as double CD Fan edition, features two CDs. The first one, contains 12 tunes. Among them are three of his most recent singles, remaining part is brand new songs. What's striking about this material is that MARK 'OH is getting softer. If you are expecting just upbeat TECHNO, you might be into surprise. YES! There still is that sound, however now it has been lifted to a newer dimension with heavy usage of female vocals and synths work that floating between uplifting big room TRANCE and softened TECHNO. The effect is simply amazing! While I always considered MARK's music rather heavy TECHNO, the novel approach he presented in this album, is exactly my cap of tea. The album starts with angelic "Where Is Babylon" dominated by female vocals and big room, seductive synth strings with some percussion ala SAFRI-DUO. Also on VOCAL TRANCE side is "I Surrender". MARK actually combines TRANCE with raving TECHNO. And this is a perfect example of this sound, however the way he does it is very unique that it might well become his new trademark. MARK is experimenting further in this release. For instance in "Summer Vibes" he melts sunshine REGGAE with dynamic TECHNO. From slow tune it transforms into dramatic TECHNO. WOW! Another smashing, turbo charged tune that combines EURO and VOCAL TRANCE is "Tokyo Is Calling". This is good. As a matter of fact all the featured tunes are solid dance, you will be pleased! This album contains also a second CD prepared for especially for fans. It contains 8 tunes all in extended mix and all mixed. This one is simply a party stumper if you will. So taken together, great release with very refreshing sound. I have made the sound sampler containing 8 tunes taken from the first CD. Get this one! Well spend money! For now enjoy the sound!
