Tonite - reviewed on 07/30/00 Artist: BAD BOYS BLUE Label: 2000 Coconut Records/BMG (Germany) Style: Dance Index #: 74321 77969 2 |
| Review: |
New release from BAD
BOYS BLUE well etablished classic DANCE
group. Similar to the album "Follow The Light"
released last year songs for this album were mostly written by Uwe
Haselsteiner and Heiko Scheider as well as by original writers
back from glorius BAD BOYS BLUE years: Tony Hendrik and
Karen van Haaren. As you probably know by now Mo Russell
left the group and his place took Kevin McCoy (aka JoJo Max),
who previously was guest RAPPER for some of groups songs. Now he is
fully part of the group. The new offering gives you 14 songs majority
of them produced by Hendrik/Hartman and co-produced by Andy
Matern that recently left Coconut Record. First song featured in
this album I'll Be Good" has been
already released as a single CD couple of weeks ago, all other tracks
are brand new. This as well as several other tracks featured were written
by Hendrik/Hartman the team of writers responsible for group's
80's success have the flavor of the sound the group was famous of, so
fans of classic sound of BAD BOYS BLUE should be pleased. "Do
What You Do", the next song has been done in catchy POP/NRG
style. "S.O.S. For Love" is featured
in two versions and one of them with JoJo rap. This one do have
some reminescences of classic sound yet produced more in POP/NRG
genre delivers great sound, vocals and production. Another track "Waiting
For Tonight" falls into same category with trendy style,
makes this one very updated and exciting offering. "Somewhere
In My Heart" gives the classic sound we know BAD BOYS
BLUE from. Outstanding production with high dose of dance intensity.
Also incredible production has been done for "I
Wanna Fly". This fare has anything we dream of. Excellent
sound, great rhythm and outstanding melody line. "You
Take Me To The Light" delivers very sophisticated HIGH-ENERGY
sound with pounding rhythm and interesting synths works. Another classic-to-be.
If you want more classic sound "Close Your
Eyes" is one to check. If you would like to cool down a
bit check POP oriented "Heaven
Must Be Missing You". Taken together this album is very
well done and should be part of your collection. Fans of group should
be delighted. Good job dudes!!! For sound sampler I prepared
the mix containing 6 tracks from this releases. For more info about the group, please refer to my Bad Boys Blue Page |

Album - reviewed on 07/30/00 Artist: HIT'N'HIDE Label: 2000 Scandinavian Records (Denmark) Style: Eurodance/EuroNRG Index #: SRCD 54294 |
| Review: |
What can I say? Seems we
have been blessed with DANCE music based
on so many albums released in this genre within last weeks. This time
Danish project HIT'N'HIDE is finally with new material. Christina
Schack & Morgan Jalsing, members of this group delivered
well done and musically outstanding release. The album starts with their
current single "Come Come Come"
previously reviewed in SINGLES section. This album is full of
fierce EURODANCE you can just cannot get
enough of. Take "Kingdom of Eternity"
for instance. A masculine NRG, glorious
monster ala LA CREAM. Terrific production on edge of NRG
and BUBBLE GUM. with sizzling synth and
melodic lines. Equally energetic is "Run
Run". With pounding rhythm this tune delivers unquestionable
excitement and dance pleasure. Christina gives high-charging performance
in this one. In "Stay" group
gave a TRANCEY background to this otherwise
pure seductive NRG tune. Another contemporary
dance masterpiece. Same TRANCEY touch has
group's hit "Space Invaders"
in it's 2000 edition. Not really a true BUBBLE
GUM as it was in it's original version, but rather a powerful
NRG/TRANCE fare. If you eager to listen
to more EURO-NRG, you gotta check "Lonely
Raider". Very invigorated tune with vocals that is a highlight
of this one. Again, seems to me the influence of LA CREAM inspired
this excellent tune that surely is floor-packer. Not all the tracks
are DANCE, for instance "Guardian Angel"
is after hours almost R&B tune with
some RAP in it. Taken together HIDE'N'HIDE
album is one of the best DANCE albums released
up-this-year. With dynamic, beat and excellent production album delivers
powerful dance experience, you should all enjoy a lot. For sound sampler
I picked up 6 tracks and mixed them for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!

Sheffield - reviewed on 07/24/00 Artist: SCOOTER Label: 2000 Sheffield Tunes/Edel Records (Germany) Style: Progressive/Techno Index #: 011051-2 STU |
| Review: |
SCOOTER has established
strong position in German TECHNO scene
and have fans all over the world. Few weeks SCOTTER released
single "I'm Your Pusher" (check VIDEO
SECTION for clip of this tune) from this newly released album
entitled "Sheffield". Twelve brand
new songs include also the mentioned single that is probably still the
best track from the album. Introductory song "MC's
Missing" carries the old Scottish folk elements present also
in second dynamic "Don't Gimme The Funk".
As a matter of fact the Scotish folk music is present in entire album.
"Don't Gimme The Funk" has powerful synth
work and interestingly built orchestration. The song has also LIVE audience
giving this TECHNO/TRANCE track very specific
stadion-like climate. Another track "Where Do
We Go?" is also dynamic TECHNO track
with beatifully arranged TRANCE elements
that grows with track progressing to the middle section. Fully instrumental
beauty with after hour feeling. I really wanted to dance to in in the
beach when the sun was going down. "Sex Dwarf"
will stimulate your senses. T.H. Baxxter gives you a high speed
TECHNO with sexual oriented theme. You
guessed right from the titlle and love making sound that you will encounter
listening to this song. SCOOTER also shifted to other type of
sounds. For instance in "She's The Sun"
you have very ENIGMA-alike slow beat, well, T.H. BAXXTER
is no SANDRA from ENIGMA yet he did very well in this
slower, quite sensual fare. "Space Cowboy"
is another TECHNO-HOUSE fare with PROGRESSIVE
edge. Frantic beats mixed with cosmic-like synths gives you space-battle
fare. Very dramatic and extremely well produced. If you would like to
deep yourself into more psychodelic mood, "Never
Slow Down" will do the job quite well. This one is combination
TECHNO and FUNKY
with quite interesting outcome. Also "Down To
The Bone" will take you to transcendental journey into space
music. Slow instrumentation abruptly interrupted with high BPM beats
gives this fare ELECTRO-BEAT feeling in
the end. You feel like you are riding a cosmic horse and travel thru
different worlds. Turn this one up when listening. The richness of instrumentation
used to compsed this track will amaze you. Taken together this newest
offering from SCOOTER is very good. This album is not exactly
dance album per se, however as such will do good. Many featured tracks
you should just listen to and appreciate groups talent like galloping
"Dusty Vinyl" for instance. I am sure fans
of SCOOTER will welcome this album with enthusiasm like with
every release from this truly talented trio. For sound sampler I prepared
the mix with 8 songs featured in this release. For more info about the group, visit group's official page at www.scooter-music.de |

Dance City - reviewed on 07/24/00 Artist: PAFFENDORF Label: 2000 Gang Go Music/Edel Records (Germany) Style: Progressive/Techno Index #: 011043 2 GAG |
| Review: |
This German project is
recording since 1998. Group released all together 6 singles with most
recent "Where Are You" and "Everybody
Scream". Behind the project are Gottfried Engels and Ramon
Zenker who is also responsible for other projects like INTERACTIVE
for instance. PAFFENDORF is a TECHNO
formation and songs from this genre are mostly featured in this finally
released debut album. I hope you already know these 6 singles that appeared
in this album since I already presented some of them in several reviews
on compilations released by various German labels. So let me focus on
some brand new fares. "Make Me Believe"
is of course TECHNO track with TRANCE
enge and computerized male vocals. Very rhythmic with interesting synth
arrangements and perfect production. This one if released as a single
could be a great club track. "Happy Apple (My
Sweet Love)" is fast ELECTRO-FUNK
with beach feeling. I am sure it will do great in IBIZA beach parties
at late hours. Female blue-eye vocal adds very relaxing feeling to otherwise
quite dynamic monster. Great instrumental work as well. Classic PAFFENDORF
sound we well know from tracks like "Smile" for instance is present
in "Shout it Out". This TECHNO
with INDUSTRIAL shade fare carries load
of heavy beats and dark-edged instrumentation. Typical ELECTRO
BEAT is featured in "Theme from Dance City",
however it is also enhanced by good synths works making this tune an
interesting offering. Taken together, this debut album by PAFFENDORF
is nice addendum to the TECHNO collection for fans of this style. For
sound sampler I prepared mix containing 7 tunes taken from this album.

Official EURO 2000 Album - reviewed on 06/24/00 Artist: VARIOUS ARTISTS Label: 2000 Universal Records (Germany) Style: Dance Index #: 159 115-2 |
| Review: |
This CD album is another
memorabilia provided for the most important soccer event in Europe -
European Football Championship. Special occasion is always it's 2000
Edition. This is a very unique album in many senses. It brings together
top artists from around Europe celebrating their passion for this game
by creating new tracks soecifically for this occassion. While some of
them are based on rhythms and tunes that are characteristic sound in
stadions, there are many newly created to capture the same feeling.
Some of you might have reservations. Another "celebrating"
compilation. Absolutely NOT!!! This is a truly stunning album. If you
have recently visited my SINGLES Review section and read the review
of the Official Anthem for this event by E-TYPE - "Campione
2000", you probably know what I am going to say. I seldom
was very surprised to see so many BIG names and so many new tracks and
trust me, you will love most of them! Have I ever give you a wrong tip?
Look what you are getting! DARIO G revamped his "Carnaval"
hit and created updated 2000 version. Nothing better could captivate
the unique, festival atmosphere. Especially latino folks will love this
one. DJ JURGEN wrote an "Aïda
2000" (yes! Verdi's motiv theme is there). This track
does remind a bit of ALICE DEEJAY but it is just because of melodic
line. otherwise the sound is quite original, and o'my! Would Verdi approve
it? :-) Also HAMPENBERG, representing Danish TECHNO
scene wrote a new tune "Football Football".
This is happy track even with cymbal section. You will also find tracks
by such projects as U 96 with "Football
Is The Game", WESTBAM UNITED with "U"
, T-SPOON featuring DJ FC with "F.O.O.T.B.A.L.L.".
and of course E-TYPE with the "Campione
2000" (if you want to know about this particular track visit
SINGLES reviewed in 2000" section). One of my favorite track is
very dramatic "Formula Football"
by PERFECTO FC. This tune delivers the feeling, the experience,
the beats, practically everything. With so many top artists, top tunes,
different genres of DANCE music you hardly can go wrong. I picked 6
tracks from this album and mixed them together. Enjoy the sound and
try to find this gem! You will not be dissapointed! |

Back To Life - reviewed on 06/24/00 Artist: PREZIOSO feat. MARVIN Label: 2000 Media Records (Germany) Style: Euro-Pop/Techno/Trance Index #: 74321 75709-2 |
|
| Review: | |
After celebrating the fame
with singles like "Tell Me Why"
and "Let Me Stay" Italian artists
GIORGIO and ANDREA PREZIOSO along with MARVIN are
back in their album "Back To Life".
If you heard both singles you might think you will get mostly EURO-POP
on this album. Well... You are into surprise! The album starts with
lasting almost 6 minutes "Ouverture".
Tune starts slow and sounds almost like intro ENIGMA album. After
more than 2 minutes get's into TRANCE mode.
Second song "Voices" get you
into the beat. Some similarities to EIFFEL 65 in here, with high
pitched male vocal in some sections. "I Wonder
Why" brings together TRANCE
and EURO-POP to nicely shaped dance tune.
There are actually many hybrids like this one just to mention: "Goodbye
Girl" or the title song "Back
To Life" that again has some synth lines that sounds EIFFEL
65 alike. Please don't get mislead, PREZIOSO has it's own
sound distinct, it just that EIFFEL 65 brought quite a new sound
and some Italians groups follow the trend. Album has some "twisted"
tracks that are very cool! For instance "Emergency
911" is TECHNO/TRANCE track
that reminds me some ACID sound back from
late 80's. It also has a lot of energy especially developing in the
middle of it. Another one "Gimme A Beat"
mix some POP with DRUM'N'BASS
and TECHNO/TRANCE sound. The result is
quite amazing! With good rhythm and fast beat you want to dance into
it right away. "Goodbye Girl" is another interesting tune
where BACKSTREET BOYS-like sound is crossed with uptempo HIP-TECHNO.
Taken together, this is very well done album, proving again that Italians
have something in their blood to make dance hits instantenously. In
sound sampler I feature 6 tracks from this album in the mix. Enjoy! For more info about the group, visit their official page at www.prezioso.de |

Songs Of Tomorrow - reviewed on 06/12/00 Artist: RICHI M Label: 2000 Stockholm Records (Sweden) Style: Alternative Trance/Dream Index #: 157 317-2 |
|
| Review: | |
I have to admit. I liked
Richi M starting from his first briliant single "Perfect
World" released back in 1998. I was stunned by his music
instinct. The beauty of his first and follow-up singles, made me believe
that Richi M is clearly new and to be successful happening on dance scene. I was not mistaken when his first album
entitled like his first single "Perfect
World" was released. This new second in his discography
album "Songs Of Tomorrow"
further proves his enormous talent. When I put this CD into my player
I immediately entered the world of transcendental fantasy. The intro:
"Meaning Of Life" performed by
angelic Gillian Reid is calming you down and preparing you for the
incoming journey into the sea of electronic-driven world of imagination
and fantasy. The journey starts with "Lovely
Lily" released few months ago as first single from this album with haunting
female voice of Nahrin Garis. The tale trip continues with Arabian-driven
"Emaho". Beatifully crafted fierce
TRANCE track with incredible synths and
very high voice provided by Chime Topgyal. Richi M seems
to be fascinated by oriental sound. For instance, in "Shandar"
he used oriental elements and vocals provided surely by Nahrin Garis.
Stunning! In the other one, more PROGRESSIVE oriented
tracks like "Space Clubbin' "
he used BROOKLYN BOUNCE formula yet the track is truly original.
Another dramatic tune: "Another Day"
is a sizzling EURO TRANCE and DREAM
oriented tune once again with the voice of Nahrin Garis. One of the
most interesting track out of this album. For another pounding track
you should check "Here I Am"
with French female vocals it adds to spectacular mystic effect! Another
song in this album "Popcorn"
will be released as a single in July 2000. This is a classic tune
written by Kingsley when electronic era started roughly more
than 20 years ago, yet Richi M gave it more TECHNO/TRANCE
sound. The album closes "The Song Of Tomorrow".
This almost 9:00 minute song is bring your journey to the end. To achieve an
incredibly DREAM effect he used haunting
voice of Gillian Reid and samplers taken from "Symphony
Of Voices" and "Diamond Vocals".
Very ENIGMA-like tune. It is perfect finish for a perfect album.
This album contains tracks that you can dance, you can listen to or
you can contemplate with. Truly a gem. As a bonus, CD includes also a
video clip of "Lovely Lily".
For sound sampler I picked up 8 out of 13 tracks so you can have better
feeling about this release. You should get this album, without it, your
world of music will miss important part. For more info about the group, please visit my Richi M page |

Fastlane People - reviewed on 06/11/00 Artist: ANTILOOP Label: 2000 Stockholm Records (Sweden) Style: Techno Index #: 157 351-2 |
|
| Review: | |
This Swedish duo: David
Westerlund and Robin Söderman is back in brand new album
"Fastlane People". After
releasing such singles like "In My Mind"
or "Believe" group established
themselves permanently as forefront DANCE
act. Both guys never stopped experimenting with the sound they play,
looking for new venues and ideas. This new album (third in their discography
after "LP" and "Remixed")
is clear proof of their quest. When listening to the album you will
clearly recognize group's classic sound in tracks like "Autoload".
This fare starts as transcendental journey into future and develops
into beatiful multilayer of sensual experiences monster we know group
from. Their "classic" sound has also touch in "Only
U" for instance. But as I said, group is into experimenting.
Take as an example: "So Good"
is more ELECTRO-BEAT oriented fare falling
into category of ACID TECHNO. In another
tune: "Catch Me" group is actually
trying HIP-HOUSE !!! No kidding!!! I think
everything has limits, and I believe the STOP sign is right there! I
truly hope this particular track was group's ONE TIME TRY ONLY! Right
before this flob is truly good "Let Your
Body Free" tune, bringing TECHNO,
HOUSE and BREAK BEAT to good, friendly
relationship. Another experiment group did in "Fantasy"
that starts as semi-DREAM tune evolving
into FREESTYLE. The title song "Fastlane
People" is hard to be categorized. This one falls mostly
into PROGRESSIVE-ACID HOUSE yet another
experiment. So taken together be prepared for exposure to different
styles, tempos and feeling. In general this is TECHNO
album, but you really have to get it to decide if you like it or not.
The group definately stands out from the crowd and will remain important
in both commercial as well as underground scenes beyond their native
Sweden. I picked 6 tracks from this album for sound sampler. Enjoy! For more info about the group, visit their official page at www.antiloop.se |

| Review: | |
Single "My
Heart Goes Boom Boom" sold at more than 500,000 copies and
being in top dance chart in many countries, made this project popular
worldwide. FRENCH AFFAIR has follow-up single "Do
What You Like" that also reached top charts in many European
countires. Now, we have the debut album under very seductive title:
"Desire". The vocalist
behind FRENCH AFFAIR is French born (1974 in Paris) dark skinned
Barbara Alcindol. She is no stranger in world of entertainment.
She already has been a successful model, and did some back vocals for
several groups (Soulie B, Assasins or MC Solar). Her debut
single was a result of her cooperation with London-based Dreyer Brothers
responsible for such acts as Black Attack or Zwetty. This
debut album featuring EURO-POP sound has
also been produced by them. Of course you will find here two mentioned
above singles at their original versions as well as remixes in more
HOUSE oriented venue. Beside them there
are 8 new tracks recorded in happy POP
style. Very happy album indeed. The CD contains also multimedia facility
with two videos to the forementioned singles. For sound sampler I have
chosen 6 tracks that includes also remixed versions "My

| Title: Out
There And Back - reviewed on 06/08/00 Artist: PAUL VAN DYK Label: 2000 Vandit Records (Germany) Style: Trance Index #: 1257528-2 |
|
| Review: | |
After recent release of
such singles as "Another Way"
or "Tell Me Why", PAUL VAN
DYK came out with his brand new album "Out
There And Back". Paul is already recognized as one of
the forefront DJs playing excellent TRANCE
and TECHNO stuff and is being invited to
many dance clubs including here in US. Fans of his music will be delighted
with the album. I am not sure if you like mixed albums, but that what
this on is. Twelve tracks are mixed into one flawless dance experience.
It will make your club crawling on the spot! Album starts with rather
INDUSTRIAL sound in "Vega"
loaded with some loops and strings. Kinda scary I would say. It has
sort of psychedelic, after hour feel into it slowly progressing into
more transcendetal mood in "Pikes".
With increasing speed we are being moved to his "Another
Way" that I am sure you are familiar with by now! Staying
in relatively fast TRANCE/TECHNO we are
being exposed to next excellent fare "Avenue".
This one is deliciously sleazy with female vocals providing a unique
feeling. Rather slower is "Together We Will
Conquer" that in my opinion could be a great closing tune,
because of the beatifully done after party touch. The album is really
rich in exploding synths and prism of instrumental whistles like one
present in "The Love From Above".
The title track "Out There And Back"
is haunting, hard-hitting big room circuit TRANCE
with truly amazing powerful layers of magnificent synthesizers. I thought
you would benefit from the mix containing most of the tracks, therefore
sampler contains 8 tracks. I did NOT retain original mixing at all!
Listen to this sampler from the album and enjoy yourself! For more info about this artist, visit his official page at www.paul-van-dyk.de |

DJ Culture - reviewed on 05/26/00 Artist: PIET BLANK & JASPA JONES Label: 2000 Orange Records/KONTOR Records (Germany) Style: Trance Index #: ORCD 54302 |
|
| Review: | |
Album of Piet Blank
(28) and Jaspa Jones (31) is finally out. Last year (June 99)
we had "In Da Mix" and
now after almost a year we have their next album. "DJ
Culture" similar to their previous one is also fully
mixed to keep you in the mood without being interrupted. If you are
a fan of these both very talented DJs, producers and remixers you will
be delighted with the package. BLANK and JONES decided
to give you a fantastic journey into TRANCE
and PROGRESSIVE sound. The intro track
"A New Culture Is Born" full
of breaks and whistles serves as prolog to the album with the storyteller
DIETER MEIER of YELLO. Right after this, we have the group's
current hit "Nightfly". Truly
an outstanding TRANCE production with haunting
female vocals and perfectly arranged synths. To increase your enjoyment
album features three versions on this circuit monster. Right after this
tune we flawlessly move to another stomper! "La
Luna". A big room innovative TRANCE
that surely delivers unstoppable excitement. Next track "DJ
Culture" with cutting-edge sound will take you to yet another
TRANCE flight. Will keep you running for
a while. For TECHNO-HOUSE freaks they have
"Sound Of Machine". You guessed!
A lot of mechanical whistles in this one, but some sections of this
tune represents full blown TRANCE as well.
Quite original! I was not fan of some BREAK &
BEATS but hey, you might like it. "The
Blue Sky" is one of my favorites from this album. This very
intense track features blue-eye female vocals that adds uplifting TRANCE/DREAM
feeling into it. For the sound sampler I prepared mix with 6 tracks
taken from this album, however original mixing was not retained. Check
it out and judge for yourself! I am sure you will want it !!! For more info about the group, visit group's official page at www.blankandjones.de |

Earthbound Artist: EARTBOUND Label:1999 Fluid Records (Sweden) Style: Techno/Trance Index #: 543 055-2 |

| Review: | |
I am late with reviewing
this album but decided to go ahead and review it, since it is still
available. You guessed right, I just receive it (FINALLY!) and album
definately deserves to be reviewed. EARTHBOUND is a Swedish duo
of Frederik Johansson and Anders Eriksson. Both guys are
not new commers, they already started releasing their singles back in
1997 ("Everyone", "Heartbeat/Element
Of Love", "Living Just For Today". We had to wait
until the December 1st of 1999 to see their debut album. It contains
all previous singles and most current production. The album consists
of 2 CDs. The first one has 10 titles and the second one, just 5 of
them, but in extended versions. The second CD contains also tunes released
as singles: "Phuturistic Journey"
released in February 2000 and most recently a very successful "One
Nation - Trance Nation" (visit VIDEO
Section for clip to this track). Both guys are pretty much tied with
other TECHNO/TRANCE/RAVE Swedish projects
like ANTILOOP and RICHI M. The music EARTHBOUND
plays is very interesting. I would highly recommend second CD. Even
if it contains just 5 tracks they are at very extended versions and
delivering a pure TRANCE feeling. "Essence
Of Life" is truly a SPACE travel anthem with flourishing
synth fireworks! The female voice of Terés gives and additional
feeling to this fare. For another TRANCE wonder tune into Trance Mix
of "Living Just For Today". What
makes this track very interesting is spectacular instrumental section
with great effects and hooks. "Phuturistic Journey" is another
interesting fare rich with synths works. Taken together very interesting
album that all of you TRANCE fans should
check out. I took 6 tracks from the first CD to give you some idea for
more you better get album! ENJOY! For more information about the group please visit their page at: www.earthbound.nu |

Strikes Back - reviewed on 05/15/2000 Artist: LASERDANCE Label: 2000 ZYX (Germany) Style: Electronic Disco/Italo-Disco Index: ZYX 20545-2 |
| Review: |
This is something for all
of you who remember or collecting ITALO-DISCO.
Back in late 80's the very specific sound that is probably the best
described as ELECTRONIC DISCO was errupting. Erik Van Vliet and
Michiel Van der Kuy were pioneers of this sound. What made this
unique was utilizing VOCODER giving a sound and voice a very specific
high-pitch computerized feeling. Tracks like "Shotgun"
or "Humanoid Invasion" were featured
in many ITALO-DANCE compilations very often
with KOTO's "Visitors"
or "Jabdah". KOTO is an
Italian artist so maybe it was the reason why both formations were put
to the same pot. Definately they were quite similar in style. So now,
more than a decade LASERDANCE is back with brand new album and
actually sound quite well retained. Laser-like synths giving you impression
of cosmic fights. Vocoders are featured as well ad libitum. Very nicely
done album. All tracks are instrumental and Erik Van Vliet is
back as a producer. Julius Wijnmalen written all the tracks and
co-produced the album. If you liked LASERDANCE you will love
this album, if you are not familiar with this sound give it a try. This
is rather classic. Sound sampler features 6 tracks taken from this album. |
