JUNE 2008 mix has been prepared by Canadian DJ BOURG. Some of you who was with us for many years might remember him from various mixes posted in our EURO CLASSICS IN THE MIX section (he done mixes tributed to such classic acts as: REAL McCOY [2002], MAXX [2002] or MASTERBOY [2002]). He also authored now infamous and search after mixes such as "The Grand Bourgmix 1", "Club Shoes Megamix II & III" just to name the few. This month he is back with his new and exclusive mix done for EuroDanceHits.com. Here is his writeup:

Hi everybody! This is DJ BOURG reporting for duty (after a long megamix hiatus) and presenting you the Mini Euromix for June! If this mix had a theme, it would probably have been "Love", solely because of the amount of tracks in the mix that have this word as part of their title (5 tracks out of 8!). Still, it doesn't keep it from featuring an interesting selection of tracks.

We introduce the mix with a powerful 1993 track by THE SHAMEN: "Comin' On". This group was already well established with a great number of quality song, such as "Move Any Mountain", and this track is no exception. This particular version of the song was remixed by none other than CULTURE BEAT, giving it the characteristic sound and energy we know (and love to hear) from them.

Our second track is a recent discovery of mine, proof that there's always new stuff to discover in the Eurodance genre, no matter how long you've been in the business: "Make Love" by 3 II ONE is a tune from 1994 with a sound very similar to "Don't You Want Love" by LÉA KISS, and which also takes some inspiration (i.e.: a sample) from the famous "What is Love" by HADDAWAY. So, at the start, it's got everything to be enjoyable!

The third track, though it is quite unknown to most people, was made by a widely known act, FUN FACTORY. "Groove Me" is the song that marks the (somewhat modest) debut of their very successful carrer. The "Darth Vader Remix" was chosen among other remixes for its classic 1993-ish sounding, à la "Take Away the Colour" (by ICE MC). You can also hear in this version a sort of prelude to a future hit by DARKNESS: "In My Dreams"! (DARKNESS, just like FUN FACTORY, is produced by Team 33.)

The fourth song is a 1994 italodance classic, "Feel The Beat of Love" by YENA, although this is not the original version we're having here: the "C. Seek Version 1" not only features ragga rap verses, but it is also really reminiscent of the early days of eurodance, when it still had "that techno sound" (sampled multi-chord synth instrument used as main hook, minimal structure, acid sounds), at the opposite of its original. This is, in my opinion, a great remix which offers a different flavour of the song, genre-wise.

The fifth song is "Why Don't You Want My Love", third single from the french group X-KAMERON in 1994, with a sound really close to the one of CORONA tracks.

This influence can also be heard in the sixth track of the mix, "Love" by HAPPINESS, released same year as track before. This song has been a personal favourite of mine for a few years already, but it's only recently that I got to enjoy it at its full length. So here it is, in its almost-entirety! (Some parts had to be cut-off for mixing reasons, of course.)

The seventh track is "Dirty Love (I Forgive You)", a dance cover from 1993 of a GUNS & ROSES song ("Sweet Child O' Mine") which is interpreted here by INFINITY. Even though the song is in most part instrumental, the fact that it was composed in the U.S.U.R.A. style (way popular among producers back in that year) give this track a magic touch that's really enjoyable!

The eighth track is "Movin' Up" by TOHONY B, a rare and exquisite 1994 italo-disco influenced track with powerful beats and vocals. It is present on a few obscure samplers and had also benefitted from a vynil release, but it didn't get as much attention as it deserved (at least, in my opinion). This is also the closing track for the June edition of the Euromix of the Month. I hope you enjoy the selection and the transition style of the mix!
